Grief & Loss:

  • Joy Comes with the Mourning  by Holly M. Besser, Founder and President of Perfect Joy Ministries

For a detailed description and reviews, see below. Available through Barnes and Noble and  Amazon for a very reasonable price.

Back Cover:

Have you found yourself powerless to heal mentally, physically, and/or spiritually from overwhelming grief, after the loss of a child

through miscarriage, stillbirth, or another painful circumstance? Are you struggling with the question of, “Why me?” and feel desperate to find a reason for this suffering in your life? Do you wonder why a loving God would allow this terrible tragedy to shatter your world? Does it seem impossible that life will ever be “normal” again?

Do you have a friend or family member, who has been touched by this sorrow, and may be dealing with these questions in their heart? Do you need some guidance to try to understand their pain in order to minister to them?

The ultimate goal of this book is to encourage and remind you that you are not alone, that what you feel is real and legitimate, and to show you that God has a plan to bring grace, peace and even joy through this significant void in your life. The second purpose is to give those on the “outside” a small glimpse and a better appreciation of what life is like, after the loss of a child.

There are not many well written books on this topic and this book handles a delicate subject with amazing care.

5.0 out of 5 stars - Healing will Flow into Peace and Joy

By M. Carswell on January 29, 2012

I have to admit from the outset that Holly is a friend of mine, and so, this review may be biased. However, as a woman who has experienced miscarriage and a ruptured ectopic pregnancy, as well as an avid reader, I think this is an exceptionally well-written book on the topic, full of hope and even joy.

Holly writes from both a perspective of a mother who has lost, as well as a woman of God who has found joy and hope in the absence of her babies. Having heard and observed first hand, her most recent loss, even as this book was in publishing, I can say that what she writes in this book, she lives in person. That, to me, is what makes this book even more of a valuable gem. Books can be written without life experience and just cliché words. Joy comes with the Mourning is not cliché. It is the result of a life passing through the fire of not one, not two, but three losses.

Holly does not just provide her own experience in her book but instead, gives the reader verses from the living Word of God. Verses that hold truth that saturate a grief stricken soul. In between this living hope via God's Word, are stories of women from all walks of life, with their own heart-breaking, and yet hope-filled losses (and yes, I am one of them, again, perhaps, biasing this review). Women walking through the journey of loss will find companions and friends in the stories shared, discovering they are not alone in the hazy time of trying to piece life back together after losing a baby.

For those suffering with infant loss or for those who know someone suffering through infant loss, Joy Comes with the Mourning is a book to add to reading list as the grief is worked through and healing flows into eventual peace and joy.

5.0 out of 5 stars - If your looking for a book to comfort and help you through your loss...this is it!

By April on January 24, 2012

Format: Paperback

My husband and I have lost 5 precious children! I remember after the first one, I went to our local Christian bookstore looking for something, anything to grab and read and find comfort in and to help me through this loss. What is great about this book, is it doesn't try and make you feel a certain way or tell you how to get over your grief but instead just shares stories and testimonies from countless others who have walked this journey. It will be soothing and comforting to your soul to realize you are not alone!

5.0 out of 5 stars - Great book for mothers who have lost babies

By Garrettsmom on January 31, 2012

This is a wonderful book for women who have lost children. After I lost my two sons I searched and searched for a book to help me with my grief, and they are just impossible to find. I was so happy to find that someone had actually written a book about this, and that they used a Christian perspective. I have recommended this book to many people, and just ordered two for a couple of my friends who have lost children.
